Understanding Product Standards and Certification in North America
Introduction:
In 2003, Underwriters Laboratories and CSA Group signed a memorandum of understanding, with the goal of simplifying the acceptance of electrical components used by Control Panel, Machinery and Power Distribution manufacturers.
Under this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), each certification body has agreed to treat components certified by the other certification body the same way as it treats components it has certified itself. Each organization will authorize the use of its mark and require its follow-up service.
The scope of the MOU covers the component categories specified in Annex A when these components are used in the end products specified in Annex B or as a component in other Annex A products.
In order to aid OEMs, NOARK has compiled Tabel 1 that lists the UL Certificate numbers for products that are also listed in Annex A. They may be used without testing within any Annex B product or in any other Annex A device.
